RESOURCES FOR ONLINE STUDENTS
We want our online students to feel just as welcomed in our library as our students who stay on campus or commute. The same technology that enables you to take classes online, will provide online access to many of our library resources.
From the NWCC library web pages you are able to:

Some of these features require authentication from off campus. Your NWCC Username and Password (PIN) will allow you access.
Library Orientation – Online
Library Orientation is now online! This tutorial is a great introduction for new students as well as a refresher for those students trying to complete that English assignment! It includes:
* How to find a book in the Online Catalog
* What is a Title Page?
* What is a Reference Book?
* How to use databases such as Magnolia, NewsBank, Wilson Web and MELO.
The tutorial is 28 minutes in length and can be done in separate lessons.
Online Catalog
The Online Catalog, also known as e-Library, will allow you to search for books and other library resources from any of the 3 locations. You may then visit the location to check-out your item(s). Go to e-Library - (Online Catalog).
Databases
There are a variety of databases to choose from on our web page. Here is a brief description of them.
Anatomy TV is a complete, detailed and accurate 3D model of human anatomy. Derived from real human data, AnatomyTV provides over 5,000 3D anatomical structures, clinical slides, dissections, animations and much more.
Biography Reference Bank is an in-depth 100% full-text biographical resource, providing comprehensive coverage of people in the news and a full range of history-makers. It covers over 236,000 individuals, plus more than 36,000 images. The content of the database comes from a wide variety of high quality resources, featuring biographical profiles, feature articles, interviews, essays, book reviews, performance reviews, speeches, or obituaries.
Bloom's Literary Reference Online features hundreds of Harold Bloom's essays examining the lives and works of great writers throughout history and the world, as well as thousands of critical articles by noted scholars from the Bloom's Literary Criticism imprint. With an archive of more than 42,000 characters and extensive entries on literary topics, themes, movements, and genres, the database contains thousands of entries and almost 170 video segments.
CINAHL with Full Text is the world's most comprehensive source of full text articles for nursing and allied health journals, providing full text for more than 580 journals.
CQ Researcher Online is the choice of researchers seeking original, comprehensive reporting and analysis on issues in the news. Published in print and online 44 times a year, the single-themed CQ Researcher report offers in-depth, non-biased coverage of political and social issues, with regular reports on topics in health, international affairs, education, the environment, technology and the U.S. economy. ebrary is a comprehensive database of e-books and other authoritative materials, offering over 41,000 titles in 16 academic subject areas.
Learning Express Library is an interactive online learning platform of practice tests and tutorial course series for academic and licensing tests. Learning Express is divided into "Learning Centers" that offer the practice tests, exercises, skill-building courses, and information you need to achieve the results you want.
Lexicomp Online is an industry-leading provider of drug information and clinical content for the healthcare industry. It is a collection of clinical databases and clinical decision support tools that provides users with a comprehensive medical library. Lexicomp Online provides the tools necessary to help improve patient safety, ensurecompliance, and elevate the quality of care patients receive.
MAGNOLIA, Mississippi's statewide consortium funded by the Mississippi Legislature, provides online research databases for publicly funded K-12 schools, public libraries, community colleges libraries, and university libraries in Mississippi.
MELO is a virtual library developed to meet academic resource needs of distance learning within Mississippi community and junior colleges. It is an electronic environment that mirrors the traditional library through online databases, electronic books, journals, and scholarly web sites. Its collection of resource information is selected by librarians and taken from the internet.

ProQuest Newsstand, an online newspaper resource, contains a selection of major international, national, and regional newspapers including access to 85 full-text newspapers from Gannett and 7 U.S. military titles. ProQuest Newsstand's detailed indexing helps researchers quickly find the news information they need. The indexing covers not only complete bibliographic information but also subjects, companies, people, products, and geographic areas. Natural language searching, SmartSearch and the Topic Guide are just a few of the features that help you find the exact information you need, quickly and easily.
ProQuest Nursing and Allied Health Source provides users with reliable healthcare information covering nursing, allied health, alternative and complementary medicine and much more. This versatile database is designed to meet the needs of researchers at healthcare facilities as well as nursing and allied health programs at academic institutions. It provides more than 650 full-text publications, with numerous evidence-based resources from more than 70 health fields.
Spectral Database for Organic Compounds(SDBS) is an integrated spectral database system for organic compounds,which includes 6 different types of spectra under a directory of the compounds. The six spectra are as follows: an electron impact Mass spectrum (EI-MS), a Fourier transform infrared spectrum (FT-IR), a 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrum, a 13C NMR spectrum, a laser Raman spectrum, and an electron spin resonance (ESR) spectrum.

Through online videos, Virtual Job Shadow provides a behind-the scenes look at life on the job for nearly 100 different careers and the library continues to grow. It also offers indirect correspondence between professionals in various careers and student/job seekers, an integrated School Search for finding institutions with relevant programs of study, and a fillable PDF student workbook.

Writer's Reference Center covers numerous thematic areas, which explain the roots of words, phrases, allusions, clichés, proverbs, and more. An in-depth grammar section defines grammatical terms and gives examples of use, while another section provides the meaning and usage of frequently confused words.
